This series keeps getting better and better. Quinn tells us the story of remains found in a bathtub. As the story unravels, we learn about Valentina's plight. She was an aristocrat who was able to flee Russia during the 1917 Revolution. When her father and fiance are killed, she escapes to England with her mother, and younger sister and brother. Valentina becomes the head of her family because her mother is in shock after her husband's death. After facing extreme poverty for a few months, they finally find Dmitry, a wealthy relative who becomes their life saver, or so it seems. Dmitry turns out to be Valentina's worst nightmare. He forces her to do unspeakable things in order to protect her family. She gave up her honor, dignity and happiness. Her story is truly heartbreaking but at the end she was able to find love and happiness.Quinn's relationships in this book also evolve. After a period of insecurity after giving birth, her relationship with Gabe became more passionate and stronger. She also became closer to Rhys, her boss, at a difficult time for him. They were able to develop a real friendship. Quinn also learned more about her twin sister. I hope they will finally meet soon!
Anyone who has read previous books in this series knows about Dr Quinn Allenby and her family. As always, Quinn is a character that expresses honest feelings, especially those felt by a lot of women who has just had a baby and is trying to share time with everyone. The back story describes events that happened in the Russian revolution and its effect upon families that were displaced. A heart wrenching story ensues of a young woman who is faced with moral dilemmas in an attempt to help her family survive.
I loved this book as I have loved all the books in this series. Truth be told. I have loved all Irina's books, and I have read them all!!This story is amazing. There are twists and turns and just when you think you know how things will turn out, they turn out completely different. I'm only upset that I finished the book so quickly. I just couldn't put it down.
I’ve read all of this author’s work so far. There was a time when I couldn’t get enough. Not so much, now. She’s gotten comfortable with the material and doesn’t share as much detail now. I read the enclosed prequel too. I feel “done†with Quinn’s gift but still intrigued about Jo. I will be reading more of Irina Shapiro.
I could not put this book down and I have read all in this series. Loved the Russian connection about the family who fled the revolution and traveled to England. Also enjoyed meeting Quentin and her associates, family members again! The characters were very vivid and the writing was just superb. Get ready to let your chores slide while you read this one!
My new favorite author! Really enjoy following Quintin’s life that is anything but boring. Woven with her search for her twin, separated from her at birth, the archeologist’s specia gift allows her to be present in previous centuries. She uses this to piece the life and death of remains found in the oddest places.
Absolutely loved book 5 - each of the Echoes from the past has been great but Unseen is by far my favorite so far!I daren’t give specifics as to why without giving away the plot line, however, I literally did not stop reading until I finished!ENJOY
Another winner!!! I never cease to be amazed by the creativity of Ms. Shapiro's books. Each character jumps to life and the plots are always unique with twists and turns which never fail to catch me by surprise. Looking forward to Book 6's release.
